As the race for the final Champions League spot comes to a gripping conclusion, Tottehnam manager Andre Villas-Boas is hoping that Wigan, fresh from their FA Cup success, can help his side out and take points off Arsenal when the two sides meet on Tuesday night.
Speaking to the Sun, Villas-Boas said
“The dream is still alive for us. It’s not down to us anymore but we still want to take it to the last day when we play at home and Arsenal are away.
“It was an extremely important victory for us [against Stoke] because it keeps us in the frame.
“What we will see is a Wigan side who are very motivated.
“They will give Arsenal a hard game. I expect a competitive match. You never know!”
Both Arsenal and Wigan have their fate in their own hands with both sides knowing that victory in their final two matches will see them achieve their goals for the season.
If Wigan can beat Arsenal and then follow that up by defeating fellow relegation candidates Aston Villa on the last day of the season they will have secured their Premier League survival.
Arsenal, however, know that victory against Wigan followed by success at St James Park will see them secure fourth place and Champions League football without having to rely on a helping hand from Sunderland on the final day.
